5.EMERITUS PROF. V. O. S. OLUNLOYO, NNOMEmeritus Prof. V.O.S. Olunloyo was born on July 22 1943, in Lagos Nigeria. He holds B.S Mechanical Engineering 1967; Ph.D. (Fluid Mechanics) 1972: both from Cornell University. He held a  Post-Doctorate Fellowship in Aerospace Engineering and later Assistant Professor in Theoretical and Applied Mechanics at Cornell University, 1972-1973.

Appointed Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Dean Faculty of Engineering and Technology, University of Ilorin, Nigeria, 1978; Professor of Engineering Analysis, 1979 and Dean Faculty of Engineering, University of Lagos 1981-1983. Specialization: in Development and Application of Singular Perturbation technique in the area of Engineering Mechanics; Establishment of Computer-Based Facilities for Planning and Management of National Water Resources; Environmental Fluid Mechanics both in respect of understanding of the magnitude and ordering of forces at play either in Glacier flow as well as Fluid Solid Interaction at the non-stationary sea bed especially in respect of engineering structures (eg. Fluid conveyance pipes, foundation footings), that either sit on or are buried in the ocean bed. and in the area of Artificial Intelligence Studies (Neuro Fuzzy Logic). Foundation Chair, African Network of Scientific and Technological Institutions 1982-1984. Member, New York Academy of Sciences, 1981; Fellow; Nigerian Academy of Science, 1989; Fellow; Nigerian Society of Engineers, 1991; Originator and Project Leader Nigerian Water Data Bank Project (NWDB), 1977-1984; Foundation Fellow; Nigerian Academy of Engineering 1995 and was elected President of that Academy from 2006 to 2008; Fellow, National Mathematical Centre (NMC); 2000; Sole recipient and laureate of Nigerian National Order of Merit (NNOM) 1998.

Prof. Olunloyo is currently Chairman Technical Advisory Committee for the Nigerian National Space Research and Development Agency; Technical Team Leader Nigerian Chapter of Alliance for Earth Sciences, Engineering and Development in Africa (AESEDA) and, President; Nigerian Academy of Engineering, 2006; He is Regional Editor (Africa) for The International Journal for Service Learning in Engineering and recently set up the first Department of Systems Engineering South of Sahara in Africa. Professor Olunloyo’s areas of research span the fields of Computational Fluid Mechanics (CFM), Engineering Mechanics and Artificial Intelligence (AI). International citations include; Who’s Who in the World, Marquis, 1982; Who’s Who in the Commonwealth, 1983; and, The International Book of Honour, First World Edition, 1983. Prof. Olunloyo, who has just recently been elevated to the post of Distinguished Professor of Systems Engineering at the University of Lagos, is a Scientific Leader with sustained capability in Science and Engineering Education with a global impact.
